LELO CONSTITUENTS:     1972-1980

Low-income workers of color who belonged to LELO’s three founding groups

  • Unemployed Black construction workers in Seattle.
  • Migrant Filipino and other Asian Pacific Islander & Native Alaskan cannery workers (some in Seattle – others dispersed in other states).
  • Latino farm workers – both migrant and resident workers – in Eastern Washington.
  • Unemployed Black construction workers and Black factory workers in Southwestern States (through SW Workers’ Federation).

*LELO was not responsible for directly organizing these constituencies. LELO provided technical assistance and advocated on their behalf through lawsuits. Leadership of LELO came directly out of leadership of original constituencies.
